Yamaha C3 Scooter Rack (DIY)

An Afternoon Project

This took me most of a Saturday afternoon. The OEM rack for the C3 (Giggle / Vox) is a unicorn it turns out!

I actually tried to order one off WeBike, but they refunded my money a day later. So, I decided to make my own. I found a rack on eBay that I liked (originally for a Yamaha TW200) and ordered it. It took a couple weeks to arrive from China. While it was on the way, I also ordered couple of aluminum bars to convert the mounting points, this set of nuts and bolts, and this set of rubber grommets. The grommets weren't quite the right size, but I made them work. If I did it again, I'd find some with a wider spacing to fit the body thickness better.

Drilling the holes into the scooter seat/lid was easy enough, but I realized after the fact that they weren't particularly straight.

Before drilling the holes in the aluminum bars, I used the rack to test the placement. I also painted the bars black to match the rack. I managed to drill extra holes in one of the bars, and you can see this in the "whoops" picture below.

The basket I chose was this one on Amazon.

You can see just how crooked the bolts are... However, pulling on the mount moves the whole scooter, so it seems solid and noone is going to be looking that close anyway. Overall, I'm happy with the result. The built-in storage is great for locking stuff away, but the rack and basket opens up a lot of possibilities. And Scooters just look better with a basket on the back, don't they?
